Health and Safety Manager

Health, Safety, Environment (SHE) Manager

As SHE Manager, you will lead the ongoing development of Health, Safety and Environmental standards across the division, ensuring best practice is embedded throughout the business. You will work collaboratively with managers and employees to promote a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement, while supporting the delivery of key operational and sustainability targets. Key Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate, maintain and administer Health, Safety and Environmental documentation, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct and support risk assessments, ensuring effective controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Develop, review and implement Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and safe working practices.
  • Provide expert guidance on HSE legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Monitor and maintain corporate and divisional compliance standards.
  • Support managers with audits, inspections and compliance reviews, ensuring actions are completed and tracked.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and compliance breaches, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Deliver health, safety and environmental training, toolbox talks and employee inductions.
  • Maintain, analyse and report on HSE performance, safety statistics and sustainability data.
  • Support the development and implementation of workplace wellbeing initiatives and employee welfare programmes.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Operational teams to ensure equipment, processes and systems meet regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, regulators and other external stakeholders on health, safety and environmental matters.
  • Lead and support behavioural safety initiatives to improve employee engagement and safety performance.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits, producing action plans with clear objectives to drive improvements.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate effective HSE training programmes across the business.
  • Support the delivery of annual site Health, Safety and Environmental plans and sustainability objectives.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Driving a proactive safety culture where health, safety, wellbeing and environmental responsibility are at the heart of decision-making.
  • Ensuring the business remains compliant with current and emerging HSE legislation.
  • Partnering with managers across all functions to embed best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Providing regular compliance reports, performance updates and gap analysis to senior management.
  • Promoting employee engagement, wellbeing and behavioural safety across the site.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce risk and enhance operational performance.

Person specification - Who you need to be

• Leads by example with a strong work ethic

• Have an interest and understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements and issues in the workplace.

• Experience in the use of Microsoft Office, in particular have a good knowledge of Excel.

• Have strong organisational and communication skills at all levels.

• Be able to prioritise and manage your own workload and tasks.

• Be pleasant, professional, and proficient.

Qualifications and Experience

• NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) essential

• Ideally educated to Diploma level

• Manufacturing /Packaging background preferred

• Environmental qualification preferred (but not essential as training will be given to the right candidate).

• Experience in the management of health, safety, and environmental systems.

• Experienced in preparing and delivering training and presentations to employees at all levels of the business.

• A current clean driving licence is desirable
